Are you searching for a free fun winter activity?
Baby, it's cold outside, and the snow is pelting down. The school's are closed all across town, due to the snow. Children are squealing and bouncing around. Kids smiling from cheek to cheek, laughing and jubilantly singing, "We're not going to school today."There is nothing like a snow day. Cherish every minute of it because you are making memories that will never go away.
Snow Day Wishes and Family Rituals
Snow is very special to people who live in the south. It is something we don't see very often. When the weatherman call for snow the next day, my family has a custom the night before the big snow. We always perform a silly snow dance clamoring for a snowy day.
A Typical Snow Day in Our Southern Home
We get up extra early and listen to our local news or radio station, awaiting the school board.
superintendent's announcement, whether or not the school is in secession. There is no need to set
an alarm, the kids are always up before you. When the snow day becomes official, the fun begins.
The first thing my girls want to do is go outside and play in the snow. Building a snowman is
their main objective for the day. They also enjoy having snowball fights and making snow angels. I
make them come inside and change after about an hour of playing outside. Once they are presentable, I
treat them to a piping-hot cup of cocoa with marshmallows on top.
When my children were small, it didn't take them long before they professed boredom. After movie and lunch, it was time to bring out the arts and crafts tote. This bin was full of indoor snow activities.
Lastly I added a couple of virtual field trip links for older children, in case you wanted to impart a small history lesson into your snowy day ritual.
