Help Earth: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Can we Have a Positive Impact and Help the Planet?

You can make a positive impact and help the Earth by reducing, reusing, and recycling garbage. We call this process the "3 Rs" Be creative and turn your trash into treasures. Use your imagination and have fun while you make the world a better place.

  • REDUCE
  • REUSE
  • RECYCLE
Plan to do this activity with friends and celebrate Earth Day.

Materials Needed
  1. used plastic bottle
  2. scissors
  3. 1/4" dowel
  4. 8-10 inches (or a used wooden spoon)
  5. metal screw hook
  6. super glue
  7. birdseed
Direction
  1. Remove the label from the bottle.
  2. Clean the inside and outside of the bottle with soap and water.
  3.  Allow the bottle to air dry until no moisture remains.
  4. Screw the hook into the center of the bottle cap. To ensure a tight fit, apply a few drops of super glue around the hook.
  5. Cut a hole about 1.5" from the bottom. Cut a similar-sized hole directly across from it. The hole should be large enough to fit the dowel/spoon through but not too big that it isn't a snug fit.
  6. Insert the perch.
  7. Cut the holes for feeding about 1 to 2 inches above the perch. Use smaller holes for small seeds and bigger holes for bigger seeds. Oval-shaped holes that are taller than wide are the best shape for ease of eating for the birds.
  8. Fill the feed with seed. Be sure to fill it slowly and if necessary, cover the holes with clear tape until completely full.
  9. Hang up your feeder! Put it on a tree branch outside of a window so you can watch to see what birds come for a snack.
A perfect activity for a birthday party. Have each friend bring their own bottle and tell them about the "3Rs". This is a cheap party activity!
